Three Reasons for an Engine Overhaul

An engine overhaul can restore a dead engine, and many of our customers opt for an engine overhaul because they do not want to replace their cars. A vehicle engine can go for a very long time before it breaks down completely, especially if it’s well-maintained. Eventually, though, the engine will succumb to its age, and you’ll need to replace it or buy a new car. Urb’s Garage can maintain your vehicle’s engine to extend its life, and once it does die, we can overhaul it to get it into like-new condition once again.

Why Do Car Engines Die?

All mechanical products have a lifespan, including automobiles. The engines are engineering and manufacturing feats of wonder, but they are mechanical, and nothing mechanical will last forever. Over time, your engine will breakdown due to years of heat, pressure, and wear and tear, and an engine overhaul can replace the major parts or systems that eventually fail due to their old age. For example…

Overhaul for Overheating Problems

Many things can cause your engine to overheat constantly, but sometimes, the damage is so severe we’ll need to overhaul the engine, or at least a portion of it. After years of circulating coolant through the engine, the cooling system could fail and begin leaking. As the engine’s temperature rises, the excess heat damages other crucial parts such as the exhaust manifold, head gasket, and engine block. This can crack these major parts and overheat your engine even more resulting in catastrophic failure.

Overhaul for Engine Detonation Problems

Your vehicle has a combustion engine whether you drive a gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle. Basically, the fuel system pushes gas into the cylinders where it is mixed with air and ignited by the spark plugs. As the combustion mixture burns, the exhaust system removes the gases so fresh air and fuel can make their way into the cylinders and detonate. Problems in the combustion chamber, including misfiring cylinders, can melt or crack the engine block, damage the engine head, or the exhaust system.

Overhaul for Lubrication Damage

Finally, one of the most common causes of engine failure that can only be repaired with an engine overhaul is lubrication damage. There’s a reason why auto mechanics recommend that you change your motor oil every 3,000 miles; it prevents catastrophic – we’re serious – catastrophic engine damage. Old, dirty, and/or low motor oil is unable to lubricate the moving engine parts. The consequence is the parts and engine overheat and the parts dissolve away. The excess friction shaves metal from the parts into the motor oil, which, in turn, damages the engine so badly that it will breakdown within hours.
